Breathe’s Advanced Yoga Teacher Training consists of over 300 hours of practice, self-study and inspired teachings exceeding all requirements for Yoga Alliance 500 hour teacher certification. Course Overview

To enroll in Breathe’s 300 Hour Advanced Teacher Training you must already have earned an RYT 200 hour certificate. Participants have up to 36 months to complete the training. There are four components of the training: Core Curriculum, Mentorship, Elective Hours, and Final Evaluation.

Core Modules

This component comprises 9 training weekends that will cover essential and progressive teaching skills, while giving trainees the required 135 contact hours with the lead trainers over the first 18 months of the training. We will build upon your knowledge of yoga asana, the anatomical and energetic bodies, and yoga philosophy to advance your practice, develop your confidence to safely align and assist students in your classes, and deepen your understanding of intelligent sequencing.

Meeting Times
Meeting times may vary slightly but generally the meetings for the above “Core Module” weekends will be:
Fridays 5pm-8pm
Saturdays 9:30am-5:30pm
Sundays 9:30am-4pm


The mentorship relationship is an essential component in developing your authentic voice and unique identity as a yoga teacher. Each participant will receive 30 hours of mentorship from a lead trainer providing you with the specific areas of development in your teaching style. Mentorship will include small group and one-on-one meetings covering a variety of topics.
Mentoship will include:

  • One-on-one mentor relationship to guide you through our program and beyond
  • Observing and assisting your mentor in classes and trainings
  • Specificied feedback and homework to define yourself as a yoga teacher
  • Small group meetings to address and discuss yoga teaching questions, and practice teaching skills
  • Enriching, supportive relationships for your journey

Elective Hours

The ‘Elective Component’ consists of 100 hours of workshops and training modules that you can tailor to your desired focus. Trainees can begin acquiring the required elective hours at the start of the training, or wait until the Core Modules are complete, leaving them with 18 additional months to finish the program. Elective hours must be presented by a teacher at the 500RYT level. Additionally, 25 elective hours can be acquired outside from Breathe Yoga Center programming, but must be pre-approved.

Final Evaluation

Once you have completed your contact hours you will schedule your final teaching assessment with your mentor. This final teaching assessment includes teaching 60 minute open-level class at Breathe, followed by constructive feedback from your mentor. The fee for your final assessment and certification is $125.

  • $500 non-refundable deposit due with application submission
  • Course Fee: $2850 (less deposit) = $2350 due by August 20th, 2017
  • Payment Plan option: $3000 minus $500 deposit = $2500, with five payments of $500 each

The additional cost of the 100 elective hours is pay as you go. Most elective weekends will cost $250-$350, and most workshops run $35-$45. Trainings that are longer than 3 days may cost more. This will allow you to spread these costs out and budget appropriately.

You can anticipate the total cost of training including the course fee, elective hours, and final evaluation to be around $4500.

What are the Qualifications for Applying to the Program?
To enroll in Breathe’s 300 Hour Advanced Teacher Training you must already have earned an RYT 200 hour certification. You must have a regular and consistent yoga practice and the desire to expand your depth of yoga. Experience with vinyasa is recommended.

Who is Training for?
This is an advanced yoga teacher training. Graduates of a 200 hour yoga certification program who are looking to dive into a personal journey of self-discovery, further their practice, and enhance their teaching skills will find this program a gratifying experience.

How long do I have to complete the training?
Trainees have a total of 36 months from the start of training to complete the requirements. No exceptions, a strong level of commitment is needed to excel at this level of teaching.

How many hours is the training?
The training will include 270 contact hours through training weekends, mentorship and elective hours. Here’s the breakdown: 135 Core Curriculum hours, 30 mentorship hours, 100 elective hours. There are 30 non-contact hours including homework and self-study that will fulfill the 300 total hours for certification at the RYT 500 level.

What is the Schedule?
Schedule is subject to slight modification if needed, but in general:

-Fridays 5:00 pm until 8 or 9pm
-Saturdays 9:30am until 5:30pm
-Sundays 8:00am until 4:00pm

What can I expect during a training weekend?
The weekend modules are like mini-retreats. There will be a lot of learning through focused curriculum, interactive presentation, and practical application. A strong sense of community with others who share your passion will be present, and you’ll have ample break time to relax, feed yourself and digest information.

What if I have to miss a class?
In the event of an absence, participant must notify Breathe Yoga Center in writing of dates and times missed. Breathe TT Faculty will supply a makeup plan.
Make-up options may include private 1-on-1 with TT Faculty, workshop/ training substitution, or deferral of graduation, and extra costs will be associated.

Who are the teachers on the course?
Meaghan de Roos  and Gil Elhart  are co-directors and lead trainers. In addition we will be bringing in additional faculty from our region and beyond. Additional faculty TBA.

What If I Have to Miss a Class?
While it is possible to make up some parts of the training, other portions are impossible to make up, such as those with guest instructors. If you have a scheduling conflict, please let us know as early as possible and we will work with you toward a solution. In general, missed classroom hours must be made up at the rate of $75/hour.

How do I acquire elective hours?
Elective hours can be acquired through workshops and training weekends that are presented by 500RYT teachers at Breathe Yoga Center or elsewhere. A maximum of 25 elective hours can be acquired outside of Breathe Yoga Center programming, but must be pre-approved.

When can I start acquiring elective hours?
Once the training starts you may begin acquiring elective hours around the 9 Core Module weekends, or you may choose to wait until the Core Curriculum is complete leaving you with an additional 18 months to acquire the 100 remaining required contact hours.

Is this a training in a specific lineage or style of yoga?
During our program you will have the opportunity gain exposure to a wide range of styles, particularly with your choices in Elective Hours. We will primarily focus into the Krishnamacharya lineage of alignment-based Vinyasa Flow yoga and the complementary, traditional Hatha Yoga practices. We believe this approach to study better prepares you both to teach and to deepen your own practice.

Will this training prepare me to work with specific populations?
Our program will enhance your knowledge and ability for teaching to specific populations such as beginners and students with injuries. Elective components will provide you further opportunity to choose specific populations such as children and seniors.

Will I be 500 hour certified at the completion of this training?
Once you’ve completed all aspects of Breathe’s Advanced Training you are eligible to apply for 500 RYT status with Yoga Alliance. They do require 100 hours of teaching experience, before or after your advanced training, in order to become 500 RYT eligible.
